This column exists to note ends: of movements, of prophecies, and — rarely — of people.
During the Herd of God's second attempt to complete its central ritual, a participant died. The group has confirmed that the attempt occurred and that it failed. It has confirmed nothing else, and has asked that the participant not be named. We have honored the request.
We record the death here not to sensationalize it and not to explain it, neither of which we are able to do, but because it happened, and because a movement that numbers its launches should not be the only party keeping the count. Someone entered a room believing it would open onto something, and did not come out. That is the whole of what we know, and it is enough to write down.
