I should say at the outset that I am not neutral about groups like Aurora Home, having once belonged to a different one, and that what follows is one former member's account, given to me over three conversations.
Aurora Home teaches ascension by frequency: the world is dense and heavy and about to shift, and the way to survive the shift is to raise one's personal "vibration" high enough to rise with it. In practice, the defector told me, this meant a slow subtraction. Foods that "lowered the frequency" were removed, then friends who lowered it, then family. "The higher you got," she said, "the fewer people could reach you. That wasn't a side effect. That was the ascent."
What she describes is not, on its face, cruel. No one was chained. The subtraction was voluntary at every step, and each step felt like progress. The trouble, she said, was that the destination — a self so refined that nothing ordinary could touch it — turned out to be indistinguishable from the loneliest she had ever been. "I raised my vibration," she said, "until there was no one left in the room. And then they told me the room was the problem."
She left when her mother became ill and she found she had been taught to experience the illness as a low frequency to be avoided. That, she said, was the day the map stopped matching the territory. She is, she wanted me to note, still glad she went looking. She only wishes the door they offered had led somewhere with other people in it.
